State Forensics Champ (2)

Congratulations to Galax High School senior, Adam Jordan, who took first place at the Virginia High School League's state forensic tournament on April 25th. Adam was competing in the Serious Dramatic Interpretation category. His selection, "Dennis, An Original Masterpiece" was about a special needs high school student coming to terms with his self-image.

A state championship in forensics is not the only thing that Adam has done to distinguish himself during his senior year.  Earlier in the year, he won the Outstanding Actor Award for the Group A Theatre Festival during the V.H.S.L. State Championships.  In the fall, Adam ran on the cross country team which qualified for the state championship meet.  In addition, he is currently playing on the Maroon Tide soccer team that has proven to be a perennial power.

Jordan will not have a lot of time to admire all of his accomplishments though.  He still has a lot of ground to cover before he is finished.  Adam has accepted a $16000.00 scholarship to attend the New York Film Academy.  He will begin classes in the fall of 2017.

Adam knows the path he has chosen will be tough, but he looks forward to the challenge.  Jordan says, "When you come from a small school, it is always hard to judge whether you have a shot to make it.  Winning the awards I've won gives me the confidence to go up against the best talent and to give it my best shot".

Jordan attributes his success in theatre to B.J. Carroll, the V.H.S.L. Hall of Fame coach who has mentored successful actors before.  Adam says, "Ms. Carroll has always been able to help me to find all of the different edges of a character and to bring that to the stage.  She has helped me to learn how to communicate that character to the audience.  She has really pushed me."

Adam will finish out his theatre career at Galax by playing Wilber in Hairspray.  Break a leg Adam!
